MALAYSIA-born actor Lawrence Wong (pic) won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 14th Chinese American TV Festival in New York, China Press reported.
It was a winning streak for Wong as he clinched Asia’s Most Promising Actor Award at the 2018 Asian-American Television and Film Festival Golden Oak Award just four days earlier.
On his first award, he posted on Facebook: “I was once so lost in my career but now I’m Asia’s Most Promising Actor.”
He said he immediately texted his father after receiving the Best Supporting Actor award.
Wong also put out an online posting after the second win, saying: “Look mum, I got an award again. I hope you could see this and be proud of me.”
Wong’s mother died two years ago. He had voiced his regrets that she was not around to see his success.
His decision to leave Malaysia and Singapore for China two years ago has finally paid off.
The Johorean charmed viewers with his role as Hai Lan Cha in the popular Chinese drama Story Of Yanxi Palace.
> Author Louis Cha, known as “China’s Tolkien”, was also popular with non-Chinese readers, China Press reported.
Between 1958 and 1970, 14 of his martial arts novels were translated to the Indonesian language.
These included Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain, and The Smiling, Proud Wanderer.
The Hong Kong author, whose pen name was Jin Yong, died on Tuesday at the age of 94.
His passing was widely reported not just in the Chinese media but in the international media as well.
