Cyberjaya hit-and-run suspects freed following High Court order

SHAH ALAM (Bernama): The three suspects in the hit and run case of a woman in Cyberjaya last week have been released following a High Court order.

High Court judge Justice Ab Karim Ab Rahman ordered the release of the three men - a Yemeni and two Libyans - after one of them sought a revision of the magistrate’s court order.

The men were arrested after a car recklessly hit Wan Amirah Wan Alias, 31, an assistant manager with Unifi. She died at Hospital Putra­jaya at 5am last Thursday.

The High Court found that the lower court had erred when it did not free the men from a previous remand detention for investigation under the Road Transport Act before they were probed for murder.

The judge said it was procedurally wrong to continue detaining the three under the same remand order.

The case was initially classified under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

The suspects were first remanded until Monday. The three men had their remand extended for a day while a woman, who was earlier detained, was released.

On Oct 17, Wan Amirah was hit by a car and dragged along the street at Shaftsbury Square, as she was crossing the road at 7.35pm.

Wan Amirah had just turned 31 on Oct 4, two weeks before her death. - Bernama
