Local fashion icon Wak Doyok (pic) gave his mother a bungalow as a sign of his appreciation and love towards the 76-year-old woman, Metro Ahad reported.
Wak Doyok, 39, whose real name is Mohd Azwan Mohd Nor, said the bungalow was the fruit of his many years of labour.
“I work morning and night to earn a living.
“For a few years, I worked hard using the name Wak Doyok even though I was scorned and humiliated on social media,” he said.
Wak Doyok said he had no intention of boasting when he shared his news on social media.
“It is not that I wanted to boast about it but this is a special gift to my mother.
“I wanted to give her a little bit of comfort to enjoy the rest of her life in,” he said.
Wak Doyok said he and his family once lived in a house that was infested by termites.
“I have lived a hard life before. It has been a struggle to reach where I am today.
“I have achieved success due to the blessings of my parents,” he said.
> Parents should not take their children playing truant lightly as it may be a sign of mental distress, Mingguan Malaysia reported.
Universiti Sains Malaysia head of psychiatric department Assoc Prof Dr Asrenee Ab Razak said preliminary mental health checks at clinics and hospitals were important if the children show a sudden change in behaviour.
She said she had treated children as young as six who showed signs of emotional distress which could have led to depression if it was not treated early.
“Do not be ashamed of the term mental health because it is as important as our physical health,” she said.
“Children and teenagers are not adults who would share and discuss their problems, so parents must be aware of any changes in their behaviour.”.The above articles are compiled from the vernacular newspapers (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil dailies).
