KUALA LUMPUR: More people will be called up in the police investigation into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), says Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh (pic).

The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director confirmed that former 1MDB chief executive officer and president Arul Kanda Kandasamy had been called in for questioning twice in the past few days.

"We have recorded the statements of about 70 people.

"More will be called in soon, including Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor," he told a press conference at the CCID headquarters on Friday (Sept 28), referring to the former prime minister and his wife.

Arul Kanda was questioned in relation to ongoing investigations involving the sovereign fund, according to Malaysiakini.

The news portal reported that Arul Kanda was called in for questioning over his 1MDB roadshows in the lead-up to the 14th General Election.

On Sept 20, Najib claimed trial to 25 charges of graft and money laundering, relating to transactions amounting to RM2.3bil which were believed to be linked to 1MDB.

The court granted bail of RM3.5mil with two sureties and fixed Nov 16 for case management.

Separately, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Umno would extend its cooperation to the police in relation to investigations over funds channelled to the party, believed to be from 1MDB.

The Umno vice-president assured the authorities that the party would assist them, adding that he was aware that some Umno liaison committee members had received notifications from the police.
