Nude photos sent to boyfriend come back to haunt girl after breakup

KUALA LUMPUR: Love turns sour, and Coey, 21, is now paying the price for having sent photos of herself nude to her then-boyfriend.

College lovebirds Coey and Govan went back to their hometowns after completing their diploma in business but later broke up due to personal differences early in 2018.

However, he was not ready to let her go. To get Coey back, Govan twice threatened to spread her nude photos.

She did not yield.

The nightmare started when two of Coey's friends told her that they had received semi-nude photos of her through Facebook messenger.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, who highlighted Coey's plight, said there have been 15 such cases this year.

"Out of the 15 cases, 13 of the victims are ladies and only two are men," he said.

Saying that the latest case was only the tip of the iceberg, Chong urged victims not to fight alone but to seek help from their family or NGOs.

He said this would show the perpetrators that the victims were not alone and had support in fighting against their blackmailers' dirty tactics.

"He threatened to commit suicide and sent me pictures of sleeping pills," Coey said.

"I loved him very much, that was why I sent him my nude pictures to fulfil his 'needs' and asked him to delete them afterwards.

"I'm very sad. I know that I'm wrong, I should not have done that," she said.

Coey urged the public to learn from her mistake.
