SHAH ALAM: Umno members are welcome to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (pic), but they must leave their old mindset behind.

The Pribumi deputy president said that Umno members who wish to join the party would have to undergo a stringent vetting process.

"Those who like to suck up, are money minded, or those who used to insult us but now praise us – sorry, you can remain in Umno.

"Do not bring in your disease (into this party)," said Mukhriz in his speech at Pribumi's second anniversary celebration at Stadium Malawati here on Saturday (Sept 8).

He said the party needs to strengthen itself and increase its membership, but added that they must have "quality and leadership".

"While we accept Umno members into Pribumi, we must vet them so only those who are good and willing to fight the good fight can join us," said Mukhriz.

Pribumi Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in his speech also advised members to always remember how hard they struggled and they hurdle they overcame over the past two years.

"We may have won the 14th General Election but we should not be too comfortable with the win," he said adding that they were now the ruling government.

Pribumi Women chief Rina Mohd Harun also said party needs to continue to strengthen itself and ensure that the country's development agenda will always be championed.
