GEORGE TOWN: Caked in mud, blindfolded and extremely slow, a group of 28 performers stopped passers-by in their tracks as part of the George Town Festival 2018.
In an urban performance titled Blind, the performers sent a jarring disruption to onlookers as they walked in the streets among the crowd, seemingly human yet less than that.
Blind was curated to nudge the spectators think about human society from these angles – the reduction of people into economic units of production and consumption; the grinding of the human character by work and duty; the imprisonment and petrification of the human soul; the automation of urban life; and the degeneration of society by materialism.
Created in Brazil in 2012 by performing arts masters Marcelo Denny and Marcos Bulhões, Blind has been performed in about 30 cities all over the world.
It took place here yesterday afternoon and all the performers are Penangites.
Those who missed it have the chance to see it again today.
The “soulless, petrified humans” will wander from Whiteaways Arcade in Beach Street to Armenian Park, beginning at 4pm.
