IPOH: This year’s National Month celebrations will focus on prudent spending and optimising available resources without compromising the spirit of patriotism and national pride, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced.
Speaking ahead of the official launch of the 2026 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday (July 19), Fahmi emphasised that the celebrations would still feature a vibrant array of programmes designed to engage all segments of society.
He said among the key initiatives was the continuation of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang programme to instil patriotism and bring the message of unity and love for the nation closer to Malaysians across the country.
“The “One Home, One Jalur Gemilang” initiative would also be intensified,” he said.
Fahmi revealed that this year's National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations carry the theme "Malaysia Madani: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati" (Prosperity Enjoyed).
Fahmi said Perak was chosen to host the launch because of its rich historical heritage, natural resources and cultural diversity.
He noted that archaeological discoveries in the Lenggong Valley showed Perak was among the earliest centres of human settlement. At the same time, its role in trade and economic development had contributed significantly to the nation’s history.
“The continuity of this history has made Perak a meeting point of various cultures and communities, shaping the identity of Malaysia’s multicultural society and becoming one of the important foundations of nation-building.
“Malaysians have a shared responsibility to preserve unity, strengthen harmony and safeguard the country’s sovereignty so that Malaysia would continue to remain peaceful, prosperous and respected by the international community,” he said.
Fahmi also thanked the Prime Minister for officiating the launch despite his busy schedule, as well as the Perak government led by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad for ensuring the success of the event.
