PUTRAJAYA: Alleged 1MDB mastermind Low Taek Jho has given Malaysian police the slip in Hong Kong and moved to Macau, reveals IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
He said Bukit Aman recently despatched a team to Hong Kong to locate the businessman, better known as Jho Low, as he was last known to be there. “But when we arrived, Jho Low left for Macau. That is the latest we know,” he said after attending the Home Ministry’s Hari Raya Open House here yesterday.
Besides Bukit Aman, Jho Low is high on the list of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) “wanted list” to assist in investigations over the sovereign fund scandal.
Meanwhile, Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said with the cancellation of Jho Low’s Malaysian passport, an emergency certificate could be issued to enable him to return to Malaysia.
He said the certificate could be issued by the Malaysian Embassy or consul-general.
“It can be issued at any time and immediately. Upon arrival the subject will be brought to the Immigration and Travel Control Officer (TCO) before being handed over to the concerned agency,” he told The Star.
