PETALING JAYA: Prominent politicians and social activists have called for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to be treated fairly by the authorities.
On Twitter, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said that although he was among the “fiercest critics” of Najib, he prayed that the former premier would be accorded kindness and would be treated with dignity befitting a former prime minister.
“I pray justice prevails in the end. That’s what I fought for #reformasi,” he tweeted yesterday
Following Rafizi’s tweet, former Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin then retweeted the tweet, but he did not make any political comment on the issue.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang on his tweet had asked: “Najib arrested 54 days after GE14?” while his political secretary Syahredzan Johan said that if Najib was to spend the night in remand, he called for the lockup rules to be adhered to.
“Rule of law must be adhered to, regardless of how we despise the arrested person,” Syahredzan said.
Meanwhile, social activist Marina Mahathir shared news articles of Najib’s arrest on her Facebook account.
“It’s happening,” she said.
Political activist Fahmi Raze said: “Time’s up @Najib Razak”.
