DBKL officially shuts down Bangsar banana leaf restaurant

KUALA LUMPUR: A banana leaf eatery in Bangsar has been forced to shut down by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) due to unhygienic food practices.

The shutters were down at Raj's Banana Leaf Restaurant in Jalan Telawi on Wednesday morning.

Fifteen officers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Federal Territory Health Department were seen going in and out of the premises through a gap in the shutter.

It was learnt that a senior personnel representing the owner was being interrogated inside.

A closure notice was pasted outside informing the public that the restaurant is closed.

The notice was issued under FT of Kuala Lumpur licensing of food establishment bylaws 2016.

DBKL Health and Environment Department deputy director Chandrakant Patel said the closure notice was indefinite, pending the restaurant's cleanliness and hygiene review by the authorities.

"It's going to take some time (interrogation) so we will be here until it's over," he said.

The restaurant landed in hot water after a 30-second video showed three of its staff members squatting at the back of the restaurant, scrubbing and rinsing plates in what appears to be a puddle of water in a pothole.
