AMPANG: Sungai Besar Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has claimed trial to committing public nuisance by smashing bottles of alcoholic drinks in front of the Selangor State Secretariat building in Shah Alam last year.
Jamal was charged at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital's premium ward before Shah Alam court magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin who was accompanied by an interpreter and an investigating officer.
The charge was read out at 10.45am on Friday (May 25).
Reporters and photographers were not allowed to enter the ward during the proceedings.
Jamal, 48, was charged with committing public nuisance by breaking bottles containing alcoholic drinks with a hammer and causing disaster, danger and public nuisance in front of an exit gate of the building at 10.15am on Oct 5.
He was accused under Section 290 of the Penal Code, which carries a fine of up to RM400 if convicted.
Jamal's lawyer Mohd Nasir Yusof later said that he has asked for RM2,000 bail while Deputy Public Prosecutor Megat Mahathir Megat Tharif Afendi offered bail of RM4,000.
The magistrate then set bail at RM3,000 pending mention on June 8 at the Shah Alam magistrate's court.
Jamal had smashed the bottles in front of the building as a symbol in protest of a beer festival.
