KUALA LUMPUR: A man who claims to be a long-time friend of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak showed up outside the former premier’s house at Taman Duta Thursday, only to be turned away by the police.

The man, who introduced himself as Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman (pic), 65, appeared disgruntled and questioned the newly formed government’s treatment of Najib.

“Is Najib under house arrest?” he told reporters after he was turned away at Jalan Langgak Duta.

Abdul Rahim claimed he is an ordinary Umno member from Port Dickson and part of “Friends of Najib Club”.

He said he and a few friends had made an appointment to meet Najib at noon Thursday but he decided to come about half an hour earlier.

“Najib is being treated like a political prisoner or criminal without being charged.

“He (Najib) is a strong man, a principled man,” Abdul Rahim said.

As he was speaking to the press, a grey Mercedes with the emblem of the Jaksa Pendamai title beside its licence plate went through the police line towards the house. It is unclear who was in the car.

Since Thursday morning, several police cars were seen going in and out of the residence as police continue their search for evidence that began late Wednesday (May 16) night.

However, it is unclear if anything was taken out in those vehicles.

Another car claiming to be carrying a lawyer was also spotted.
