Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
KUALA LUMPUR: The process of releasing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) will be carried out at the Rehabilitation Hospital in Cheras here without requiring the PKR de facto leader to be brought back to the Sungai Buloh Prison.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution said Anwar was expected to be released after the Pardons Board meets at 11am on Wednesday (May 16) to discuss the application for his release and full pardon.
So, we expect (the release) will be at noon tomorrow before a gathering later in Petaling Jaya,” he told reporters after visiting Anwar at the hospital on Tuesday (May 15).
On May 14, the Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Wan Ahmad Dahlan said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V had consented that all procedures regarding the Pardons Board proceedings on Anwar be finalised on Wednesday.
Anwar began his five-year jail sentence in February 2015 after the Federal Court upheld his guilty verdict on the charge of sodomising his former personal assistant.
Anwar, who was imprisoned at the Sungai Buloh Prison, was scheduled to be freed on June 8. - Bernama
