GEORGE TOWN: Zairil Khir Johari, the DAP candidate for Tanjong Bunga, will still contest the state seat in GE14 despite Penang Barisan Nasional chairman Teng Chang Yeow being fielded there.
Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Zairil would not run away from the seat.
"He will stand and fight. He will accept the verdict of voters," he said at a press conference here Thursday (April 26).
Lim said the party would not make any adjustments to its candidate line-up in Penang.
He was commenting on speculation that either he or state party chairman Chow Kon Yeow would contest in Tanjong Bunga following Teng's candidacy for the seat.
Zairil said he was prepared to contest against Teng as he has worked hard on the ground for the past five years.
"I will go all out to fight for every vote," he said.
Zairil said there were environmental issues there and he was prepared to answer all queries.
"We are a transparent state government. If we are not, we have no right to be in the government," he said.
