Penang BN to field 31 new faces in GE14


GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan Nasional will field 31 new faces in the 53 state and parliamentary seats in the state.

State Barisan chairman Teng Chang Yeow said 60 per cent of them are new faces with the youngest being 32 years old.

"Seven of the candidates are below 40 years old," he said in his speech during the presentation of appointment letters to Barisan candidates at the Penang Gerakan headquarters here Tuesday morning.

Teng, who will be contesting the Tanjong Bunga seat, said all 53 candidates to be fielded by the coalition must have the "winning mentality".

"There are going to be many multi-cornered fights and no longer one to one like before," he added.

There are 13 parliamentary and 40 state seats in Penang.

Gerakan will field eight new candidates, Umno five, MCA 10 and MIC two.

Six of the 53 candidates are women.

It is learnt Umno will have three new faces in the 15 state seats it is contesting. The seats are Teluk Ayer Tawar, Permatang Berangan and Bayan Lepas.

Penang Umno will also field new faces for two of the five parliamentary seats that it is contesting.
