Plan your next getaway at Sabah travel carnival

Encouraging turnout: SKCCM recently wrapped up its Johor leg and will move to Imago Shopping Mall in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, for the next stop of its journey.

KOTA KINABALU: Before clicking “Book Now” on your next holiday, it may be worth making one stop first.

From Aug 14 to 16, Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia (SKCCM) returns with its Sabah edition at Imago Shopping Mall.

It transforms the venue into a one-stop travel marketplace where visitors can discover holiday inspiration, compare travel packages, unlock exclusive promotions and stand a chance to win exciting travel prizes.

Organised by Tourism Malaysia in collaboration with Star Media Group, the three-day carnival is part of efforts to encourage more Malaysians to explore the country’s diverse tourism offerings in support of the Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 campaign.

Carrying the theme “Explore. Experience. Excite.” and the tagline “Destinasi Indah, Harga Rahmah”, the carnival brings together tourism operators, hotels, resorts, travel agencies, attractions and local entrepreneurs from across Malaysia, allowing visitors to plan their next getaway while enjoying event-only offers not available elsewhere.

As the roadshow makes its only stop in Sabah, this edition shines a spotlight on the state’s internationally renowned eco-tourism, island escapes and adventure experiences while showcasing destinations from every corner of the country.

Visitors can discover everything from diving and snorkelling adventures, wildlife encounters and river cruises to cultural villages, community-based tourism, tea plantation experiences and farm tourism.

Those looking for a relaxing escape can browse attractive hotel promotions, resort packages, family holidays and weekend getaways, all in one convenient location.

Beyond travel packages, the carnival also celebrates Malaysia’s rich culture through a showcase of traditional food products, batik, tourism souvenirs and locally made specialties, giving visitors plenty to explore between

browsing their next holiday destination.

One of the biggest highlights of this year’s carnival comes from official airline partner Batik Air.

Throughout the three-day event, visitors who stop by the the airline’s booth at the Ground Floor Centre Court, Imago Shopping Mall, can enjoy an exclusive 15% discount on flight bookings, available only during SKCCM Sabah.

Visitors can also receive official Batik Air merchandise while stocks last, making every visit to the booth even more rewarding.

Adding to the excitement,

Batik Air will also be giving away four return flight tickets through carnival activities and lucky draws.

Three lucky winners will each receive a return ticket between Kota Kinabalu and Subang, while another winner will walk away with a return ticket between Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi.

But the rewards do not stop there. Throughout the carnival, visitors can also look forward to winning hotel stay vouchers, holiday packages, attraction and activity vouchers, shopping vouchers, tourism merchandise and local food products contributed by participating tourism partners.

Lucky draws, interactive stage games and family-friendly activities will be held throughout the weekend, giving visitors multiple opportunities to win while enjoying the lively carnival atmosphere.

Beyond the attractive prizes and exclusive deals, SKCCM offers something many online booking platforms cannot – the opportunity to meet tourism operators face-to-face, ask questions, compare destinations and receive recommendations before making travel decisions.

The strong participation from tourism stakeholders nationwide also reflects growing confidence in Malaysia’s domestic tourism sector as the country prepares to welcome more travellers under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

Whether planning a family holiday, a romantic island escape, an outdoor adventure or simply looking for inspiration for the next long weekend, visitors will find plenty of ideas and value waiting at the carnival. Admission is free.
