Klang Valley water supply to normalise today

PETALING JAYA: The restoration of water supply in parts of the Klang Valley affected by disruption is set to increase to over 90% by today.

Every effort, said Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), is being taken to speed up the recovery process of increasing water pressure and distribution to elevated areas or high-rise buildings and to places at the end of the supply line.

“Lorry tankers will continue to be mobilised to provide water to areas still facing water disruptions until supply is fully restored,” it said in a statement here yesterday.

As of 6pm yesterday, it said supply had been restored to 77% of accounts in the Klang Valley while in Petaling and Kuala Lumpur, this had risen to over 50%.

In Gombak, it said supply had been restored to 78.2% of households while in Klang, this was at 86.1%.

In Kuala Langat, almost all of the households had received water while in Hulu Selangor, the supply had been fully restored.

Water supply in the Klang Valley had been disrupted since Tuesday due to repairs for a burst surge vessel system at the Sungai Selangor Phase Three Water Treatment Plant (SSP3).

In Kuala Lumpur, it was reported that Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim said basic needs, especially water supply, should not be turned into a political polemic.

The Selangor government, he added, should not blame others for its inefficient management.

“It is improper for the Selangor Mentri Besar to point the finger at the Prime Minister and the Federal Government.

“It should immediately focus on resolving the issue instead of passing the buck,” he said.

Irmohizam said Selangor state assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh had also blamed Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) – a state-owned company – for the disruption.

“The state government has a 30% stake in SPLASH through Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad,” he said.
