PETALING JAYA: Tycoon Robert Kuok has contributed to the development of Malaysia, said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic).

"We all belong to the same family. Do not be angry at Robert Kuok. He has contributed to the nation's economy and the Tiong Hua clan as well," he was reported saying in a news portal on Sunday (March 4).

Azmin added that Malaysia would not have been as prosperous without the Chinese community, including Kuok.

"When we are successful, we do not forget the contributions by Malaysians, including the Malays, Indians, Chinese, Ibans and Kadazans. They are also Malaysians who need respect and their rights to be protected," he said.

Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz had described Kuok as a "pondan" (effeminate), and had challenged him to return to contest in the coming polls, adding that he should also give up his Malaysian citizenship.

This follows after blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin posted three articles in his website Malaysia Today, alleging Kuok was funding various political parties to overthrow the Government.

In response, Kuok refuted the allegations, and said he reserved the right to take action against the portal.
