PUTRAJAYA: A "Datuk", who holds a high post in a company involved in the Penang undersea tunnel project, has been remanded in graft investigations into the project.
The 59-year-old company senior official has been remanded for six days until Jan 15.
Magistrate Fatina Amyra Abdul Jalil allowed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) application for the suspect to be remanded although his lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh argued there was no need for him to be held.
The Datuk was arrested at the MACC headquarters here on Tuesday (Jan 9) at around 8.45pm.
On Tuesday, MACC personnel raided the offices of four state government agencies — the Penang Public Works Department, Penang State Secretary, Penang Office of Lands and Mines and Penang Valuation and Property Services Department — and three property development and construction companies.
They are Ewein Zenith Sdn Bhd, 555 Capital Sdn Bhd and Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd's Penang office.
Two men with Datuk titles were arrested following the raids on Tuesday.
The other suspect is expected to be brought before the magistrate's court in George Town.
