Young girl killed in shotgun accident

ALOR SETAR: An eight-year-old girl died after she was shot in an accident on Wednesday (Dec 13) at a village near Pokok Sena here.

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin said that Puteri Intan Sharini Mohd. Hishamuddin was killed when her 15-year-old cousin accidentally shot her with a shotgun that was used to kill squirrels.

ACP Mohd Rozi said that the incident happened at about 11am on Wednesday (Dec 13).

He said that the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"The shotgun involved in the incident has been seized, along with its licence. The licence is still valid until June 2018," said ACP Mohd Rozi.

Mohd Rozi added that the girl's uncle and cousin have been detained to assist the police with their investigation, and said that her body has been sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-mortem on Thursday (Dec 14).

Amendment: Police have clarified their initial information. The 15-year-old suspect is the victim’s uncle. Also detained was her grandfather.
