KOTA KINABALU: A former minister was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly threatening an Uber driver with a gun after a minor accident in the city.
The suspect was taken in to have his statements recorded. He was released on police bail the same night, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din.
The Uber driver will also have his statements recorded, he said.
Ramli said it was still too early to say whether what happened was a misunderstanding or something else.
The 75-year-old suspect was a state Cabinet minister during the Berjaya government between 1981 and 1985.
The Uber driver, Chin Wong Seng, 65, said in a press conference at the DAP office on Sunday that the incident started after the former minister bumped into his car and tried to flee the scene on Thursday evening.
Chin said the suspect had brandished his gun at him while saying “do you want to die, I shoot you” when he asked for the suspect’s phone number.
Chin claimed that he then told the man to just shoot him because he was already old.
He said it was then the suspect put away his gun and told Chin to go to his office in Tanjung Aru not far from the city to settle the matter.
