Welfare Dept rescues girl sexually abused by dad

MELAKA: A 12-year-old girl who has allegedly been sexually abused by her father for the past three years has been rescued by the state Welfare Department.

Its officers, along with the police, rescued the girl from her home in Merlimau, Jasin, following information provided by her school.

“We acted on Nov 6 as soon as we were informed that the biological father could have sexually abused and sodomised his child since she was nine,” said department director Burhanuddin Bachik.

She is the fourth of the man’s seven children.

It is learnt that the 32-year-old odd-job labourer was arrested on Nov 6. The girl’s mother is a housewife.

The child’s prolonged ordeal is believed to have been discovered by a counselling teacher, who then alerted the Welfare Department.

Its officials have sent the victim for a check-up at Hospital Melaka.

The case is being probed under the Child Act 2001.
