Floodwater rising at a residential area near Skudai, Johor.

JOHOR BARU: Flash floods hit several areas here following a downpour on Thursday (Nov 9).

State Health, Environment, Education and Information committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the hour-long downpour, which started at 3.30pm, caused floodwaters to rise along some main roads and residential areas.

Among the areas affected were Kampung Maju Jaya, Kampung Laut Skudai, Kampung Paya Kenangan, Kampung Kangkar Tebrau as well as parts of Jalan Skudai.

The Civil Defence Force mobilised personnel to provide aid to victims in certain areas.

"A team was sent to Kampung Maju Jaya after a report was received that several houses there were affected," he said in a statement.

He added that Johor has yet to open any flood relief centres.
