Mastermind snitches on his fellow daylight robbers

KUALA LUMPUR: Police crippled a gang of daylight robbers known as the Ah Leong gang when they arrested its mastermind who later snitched on his henchmen.

City police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the 41-year-old mastermind and six others were involved in a number of break-ins in the Klang Valley over the past two months.

“They stopped at nothing to get what they wanted, including poisoning their victim’s pets,” he said.

In one of their heists, believed to have been carried out last month, the gang members poisoned a businessman’s pet pit bull before gaining entry into his home in Cheras and stealing his hunting rifle and 183 bullets.

Police managed to retrieve the rifle when they arrested the gang members, aged between 19 and 50, on three separate occasions on Nov 3.

The gang is believed to be responsible for six break-in cases in Sri Petaling, Cheras and Kajang. It usually operated between 8am to 5pm while the house owners were at work.

“They could have caused their victims more than RM50,000 in losses,” Comm Mazlan said.

All suspects tested positive for methamphetamines when they were arrested and have been remanded until Tuesday (Nov 7).

“We are conducting further investigations to trace the whereabouts of more gang members and their involvement in other crimes,” Comm Mazlan said.
