Cops confirm investigation into RPK over alleged defamation of Apandi

Raja Petra Kamarudin

PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) over the blogger’s recent articles that allegedly defamed Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.

When contacted on Wednesday, Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd confirmed that police were investigating RPK following a police reported lodged by Apandi.

Comm Wan Ahmad Najmuddin confirmed that the case was being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

It was reported that Apandi lodged a police report against RPK over the blogger’s recent articles.

“Yes, I did lodge a police report against RPK on Oct 22 for criminal defamation,” Apandi said in a text message on Wednesday.

The articles had made all sorts of allegations about corruption, which Apandi has strongly denied.

Raja Petra had also written about a purported meeting in 2015 between senior judges and a senior politician about an alleged plot to topple the Government.

“I am seriously going to sue and am consulting my lawyer friends in the United Kingdom. This is nothing but fake news done with evil intention,” he said then.
