MIRI: Fierce winds of up to 60kph battered Miri city Thursday (Oct 19), uprooting trees in several housing estates here.

In the Tanjong Lobang and Pujut housing estates, Fire and Rescue Department personnel and Civil Defence volunteers had to cut trees that had fallen across roads and blocking traffic.

A truck was hit by a falling tree but fortunately, the driver did not suffer serious injuries.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the Meteorological Department has issued a category two warning.

"We recorded wind speeds reaching between 50kph and 60kph and rough seas with waves as high as 3.5m," he said.
