KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has declared that he will never return to Umno, even if Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is no longer the Prime Minister.
In a video posted on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Facebook page, the former premier claimed that Umno had been destroyed and had strayed from its core struggles.
"It's no longer about the struggle for race, religion and the country," claimed the Pribumi chairman on Friday.
Dr Mahathir, who is a former Umno president, was responding to a question on whether he would return to the party if Najib was not Prime Minister.
"I will never return to Umno again because this is a destroyed Umno which only prioritises the struggle for 'dedak' (animal feed)," he claimed.
Dr Mahathir formed Pribumi together with his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in 2016.
Pribumi has since joined the opposition bloc Pakatan Harapan, which comprises PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
Pakatan Harapan recently announced its new leadership structure with Dr Mahathir as its chairman, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as its de facto leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the coalition's president.
