One family finds relief while another cries in disbelief

KOTA TINGGI: The family of the assistant school warden implicated in student Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gadaffi’s death is relieved that police are no longer investigating the case as murder.

The assistant warden's younger brother, only identified as Asrul, 23, said the family was relieved.

“My parents are quite relieved,” he said at the family home in Felda Lok Heng yesterday. The assistant warden is the fourth of six siblings.

“Ever since he was released, he has kept things to himself and does not want to talk about it.

“We hope this matter will end quickly,” Asrul said, adding that his brother has a new job.

Efforts to contact the assistant warden were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Thaqif Amin’s family is disappointed over the Health Ministry’s handling of the investigation, saying it was not officially told of the findings.

His mother Felda Wani Ahmad, 40, said they only found out from the media or through WhatsApp messages sent by others.

“I am a public servant and I know there are procedures that should be followed,” she said at the family home in Taman Bukit Tiram.

Felda Wani said the family wanted an official report from the ministry so that it could start legal action.

“We want to see all reports relating to my son, including when he was warded at the hospital for treatment,” she said.

She said she found it hard to accept the report that her son died of leptospirosis and not from his injuries.

She also complained that the family’s wishes were ignored.
