PETALING JAYA: Selangor imported striker Francis Forkey Doe (pic) has been fined RM6,000 in default six months’ jail by a magistrate's court here for using a cloned car.
The Liberian admitted displaying a fake car registration plate BLK 17 on a BMW 325i at a parking lot in front of Restoran Alfa Maju, Jalan Puteri 1/6, Bandar Puteri, Puchong, at 4am on May 5.
The 31-year-old, who was unrepresented, asked the court for a lenient sentence after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
“I have three children and I promise not to do it again,” he said.
DPP Abu Arsalnaa Zainal Abidin, however, asked the court to mete out a heavy punishment.
“Car-cloning is on the rise and the court has to mete out a sentence to deter the public from purchasing and using cloned cars,” he said.
According to the statement of facts, a team of policemen was carrying out an operation at a restaurant in Puchong and noticed the vehicle.
They ran a check with the Road Transport Department system and found the registration number to be fake and the chassis number did not exist.
Further checks also revealed that the BLK 17 licence plate was registered to another owner.
The footballer was arrested on May 5.
