PETALING JAYA: The country’s top two leaders led others in expressing full confidence in the ability of Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg to lead Sarawak to greater heights.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) said he was confident that Sarawak’s new Chief Minister would continue to drive the state towards progress and prosperity.
“I am certain Datuk Amar will continue the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s legacy. I wish him all the best,” Najib wrote in a Facebook posting.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Abang Johari had gained the trust and confidence not only of his party, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), but also the state Barisan Nasional and Federal leaderships.
“This is not a privilege, but a mandate that has to be shouldered with full responsibility,” he told reporters covering his visit to Beijing yesterday.
Dr Ahmad Zahid said he and Abang Johari had known each other since the 1980s when both were in the Youth wing of their respective parties.
He pledged to help his “old friend” fulfil the Aku Janji manifesto made to the Sarawak people.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai described Abang Johari as being more than qualified to lead Sarawak and continue the good work of Adenan.
“Indeed, I look forward to working closely together with Datuk Abang Johari as a fellow leader within the Barisan Nasional coalition.
“My congratulations, support and well wishes go to Datuk Abang Johari and the people of Sarawak,” the MCA president said.
Health Minister and MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam hoped that Abang Johari would continue with the policies of his predecessor to ensure continuity in the Sarawak administration.
“Numerous views as well as principles of Adenan have been the basis for us in the peninsula to formulate policies,” he added.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said he was looking forward to working closely with his new Sarawak counterpart.
He said Sabah and Sarawak were not only close neighbours but were “like family”.
“I am looking forward to forging greater co-operation between our governments for mutual benefit,” he said.
Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said Abang Johari’s rich experience as Deputy Chief Minister and Deputy PBB president made him the right choice to lead Sarawak.
“I am confident that Sarawak will continue to prosper under Abang Johari’s administration,’’ he added.
Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali also joined in to congratulate Abang Johari, who he said was free from controversy and someone with a clean record.
