PAS MP ‘500%’ sure Hadi’s Bill will be tabled this week

A PAS MP is “500%” sure that his party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’ Private Member’s Bill will be tabled for debate this week.

Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali (PAS-Kuala Nerus) said its MPs were confident that the Bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 would be tabled – either tomorrow or Thursday, before Parliament adjourned for the year.

“It is only Monday and two days have been set aside to finish debating the Budget,” he told reporters at the lobby yesterday.

Asked on the chances, he said: “Five hundred per cent sure.”

Today, opposition MPs will be marching from Parliament to Bukit Aman to hand over a memorandum calling on the police to stop harassing MPs for raising issues in the Dewan Rakyat.

Datuk Johari Abdul (PKR-Sungai Petani) told reporters they wanted Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to leave the MPs alone.

Former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, former Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and former Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah are being probed under the Official Secrets Act and Sedition Act.

Last week, Rafizi Ramli (PKR-Pandan) was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in jail for leaking a classified 1MDB audit report.

Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh) said a memorandum would also be handed to the Prime Minister’s Office over the arrest of several MPs during the weekend over Bersih 5.

Anthony Loke (DAP-Seremban), Tian Chua (PKR-Batu) and Zuraida Kamarudin (PKR-Ampang) were among those picked up by the police last weekend.
