Aussie tourist says sorry for trouble caused for going missing

PETALING JAYA: Andrew Gaskell, the Australian tourist who went missing at Mulu National Park for two weeks, apologised for the “inconvenience and trouble” he had caused.

“Had I followed correct park rules I would have avoided this incident completely,” Gaskell (pix), 25, from Tasmania, said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

“I am deeply sorry for all the trouble I have caused and now need to rest and recover,” he said.

He said he “will always follow park rules” in future and hoped others will learn from his experience.

Gaskell was airlifted out of a deep ravine known as the 'Hidden Valley' on Tuesday.

Over 60 personnel were involved in the search, including staff from the Fire and Rescue Department, police, civil defence and Sarawak Forestry rangers, after Gaskell was reported missing on Oct 20.
