Harassment of journos: Jamal says sorry if Red Shirts involved

PETALING JAYA: Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunus (pix) has apologised if anti-Bersih 5.0 members had assaulted any journalist. 

Journalists from The Star covering the Bersih 5.0 convoy were among those who were confronted and harassed by a group of anti-Bersih supporters outside a hypermarket here on Saturday.  

"If there was an incident, I on behalf of the Red Shirts, apologise to the reporters," he said when contacted by The Star's Bahasa Malaysia portal, mStar, on Saturday night.  

Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief, said he was currently in Dubai on transit before flying back home.  

The Star journalists lodged a police report at the Kuala Selangor police headquarters on Saturday night after the assault.  

Jamal said that if the incident - captured on video - really occurred, it could have been unintentional.

"I apologise if there are any damages or injury, and so on, we will be responsible. 

"I'm sure it happened by chance and was not intentional," he said, referring to the group of reporters who were assaulted by the anti-Bersih group.  

Jamal said he would get confirmation on the incident, adding that the Red Shirts did not want to cause violence.   

He, however, added that as long as there was yellow, while Bersih exists, “we will be here."
