Azmin urges all opposition parties to stand united

KUALA LUMPUR: All opposition parties should take heed of the trouncing they received in the Sarawak polls and band together for the next general election.

PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, in a statement yesterday, invited PAS to team up with his party, Amanah and DAP for the next national polls.

Saturday’s trouncing, he said, clearly showed that voters in Sarawak rejected the squabbling among the opposition parties.

“Amanah and PAS should continue to advance with PKR and DAP. We should move forward together to face the election as a team,” he said.

The state election saw Barisan Nasional winning 72 of the 82 seats, including two uncontested.

DAP, which previously had 12 seats, only won in seven of the 31 it contested while PKR managed victories in three out of the 41 constituencies it stood at.

Both PAS and its splinter party, Amanah, lost in all the seats contested.

DAP and PKR also clashed in six seats–Mambong,Ngemah, Simanggang, Murum, Mulu and Batu Kitang – despite being coalition members.

“Maybe our achievement could have been much better if from early on, we were one at heart and cooperated like we normally did.

“We should accept that our alliance will continue to differ in opinion over certain issues in the future. But the spirit of solidarity will help us overcome this difference,” he said. — Bernama
