KUCHING: Federal minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas has unofficially won the Bukit Saban state seat after leading by 4,257 votes at 6pm on Saturday.
His closest opponent is PKR’s Noel Changgai Bucking, who only has 845 votes so far.
Uggah, who is Betong MP and PBB senior vice-president, took over from incumbent Robert Lawson Chuat to contest the state seat this time around.
The Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister is familiar with the area as the state constituency is located within his parliamentary constituency.
Uggah is highly tipped to be appointed Sarawak’s next deputy chief minister.
Voter turnout in Bukit Saban was 67.9% when polling closed at 5pm.
