Datin Amy, wife of former Bernama GM dies

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Amy Bok Soon Boey, wife of former Bernama General Manager Datuk Yong Soo Heong, died Wednesday at the University Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya near here following a long illness.

Amy, 67, leaves behind her 61-year-old husband Yong and 28-year-old civil engineer son, Tun Li.

Yong said the wake for his late wife will be held at their residence at 16, Jalan 6/27D, Section 6, Wangsa Maju, from tonight.

The funeral will be held at 9am on Sunday and the cortege will leave for the Nirvana Memorial Centre at Section 21 Shah Alam for the cremation ceremony.

When met at UMMC, Yong described his wife as his pillar of strength for almost 40 years, especially during his competitive badminton-playing days and long journalistic career.

"Her passing is a big loss to me and the family. She has been a loving wife and doting mother," he said.

Yong retired from the Malaysian National News Agency in October last year. - Bernama
