Sultan Ahmad: Don’t get involved with IS militant group

PEKAN: The Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah has called on Muslims to return to the path of tolerance and not get involved with the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

He said it had become an issue when Malaysians were getting influenced by the activities of IS.

“If this movement is not tackled quickly and allowed to spread, it will become a real danger to our country,” said Sultan Ahmad Shah during the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with his 85th birthday yesterday.

He said Islam had never taught its followers to murder and commit acts of cruelty.

“Return to the teachings in the Quran and let it lead us down the path of goodness, unity and tolerance,” he said.

Sultan Ahmad Shah also said that he was glad to have witnessed the state develop rapidly during his 41 years on the Pahang throne and was proud of the growth of education in the state as there were now schools in every district to ensure that no children would be deprived of the opportunity to study.

He also said it was his wish that the state uphold tolerance as its value with its people of various races and religions living together in harmony under an efficient administration.

During the investiture, the Sultan’s brother, Tengku Panglima Perang Pahang Tengku Abdul Aziz Sultan Abu Bakar, headed the list of recipients of the Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (SSAP), which carries the title “Datuk Seri”.

Among the 24 recipients of the award included Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Datuk Mustafar Ali and CIMB Group CEO Tengku Datuk Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

Recipients of the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP), which carries the title “Datuk’, included MCA central committee member Ng Chok Sin, Rompin MCA chief Fong Kon Chu and Bera MCA chief Wai Che Seng.

Others are the Prime Minister’s press secretary Rozilan Salleh and the Prime Minister’s political secretary Wong Nai Chee.

A total of 91 individuals received their SSAP, honorary SSAP, Sri Indera Mahkota Pahang (SIMP), Darjah Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (DSAP), honorary DSAP and DIMP awards in the ceremony held at Istana Abu Bakar here.
