Mahfuz claims Govt blocking hudud Bill

DATUK Mahfuz Omar has accused the Government of blocking PAS’ Private Member’s Bill on hudud.

The outspoken PAS MP of Pokok Sena wanted to know why the Bill, which was submitted by Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang a week before this Dewan Rakyat meeting began on May 18, was only included in the order paper on Wednesday.

Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said he had explained the procedure to Abdul Hadi (PAS-Marang), who is also PAS president.

“The Standing Orders state that any motion will not be debated until government matters are resolved,” he said.

The Bill was to pave the way for the implementation of hudud in PAS-led Kelantan. It appeared as the last item (No. 28) in the order paper.

At the last sitting in March, the Bill was listed in the order paper but not tabled.

At the Parliament lobby yesterday, Mahfuz said the Government had deliberately blocked the Bill from being debated.
