Shahrir on meeting Arul: ‘I want to understand 1MDB issues'

PETALING JAYA: The meeting with Arul Kanda Kandasamy recently was just to get the facts straight and understand the issues affecting 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), said Tan Sri Shahrir Samad (pix).

The Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman said in a report quoted by BNBBC.my that his meeting with the 1MDB president and group executive director was a normal practice in matters concerning public interest.

"As a lawmaker and president of the club, I need to get a complete understanding of important issues which doesn't only include 1MDB.

"The support by BN parliamentarians is based on facts and correct information, not just party loyalty," the Johor Baru MP said.

He was also cited as saying that BNBBC regularly gets briefed on various issues of public interest from relevant parties.

Shahrir said that Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan was present during the three-hour meeting in a Kuala Lumpur hotel on Wednesday.

"I also met Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah over the 1MDB issue,” he added.

The report also said that Shahrir expressed his views in both meetings that more funds were need to be injected into the firm in line with its liability without depending on public funds.

He was quoted as saying that 1MDB had valuable assets but the debt-ridden firm was inappropriately financed.
