Floods: Situation improves in Sarawak, ‘flood management unit’ to be set up

KUCHING: The flood situation in Sarawak continued to improve on Friday, especially in the south, where the last relief centre in the state capital closed at 11am.

By 4pm, there were only 2,846 evacuees housed at 13 relief centres across four divisions in the state.

At the flood's peak on Tuesday night, there were more than 10,500 evacuees.

Limbang division in northern Sarawak recorded the largest number of flood victims at 1,300 evacuees, according to latest statistics from the National Security Council.

Samarahan, which is close to Kuching, is the next worst hit with 1,215 evacuees.
