Male masseur ditched by boyfriend jailed for attempted suicide

KUALA LUMPUR: A male masseur who broke up with his boyfriend was jailed 12 days for attempting to commit suicide and trespassing.

Magistrate Saifulakmal Said told Loh Chin Long, 22, that committing suicide was "not the way to release tension" as there were other approaches that could be taken to address personal problems.

Loh was jailed six days and fined RM1,000 for trying to commit suicide by lying down on his back on the LRT track station in Cheras at about 1.50pm on Oct 14.

He was jailed another six days and fined RM500 for trespassing the LRT track.

The sentences are to run concurrently from Oct 14, the day Loh was detained. Loh had pleaded guilty to the charges.

Saifulakmal instructed Loh to be sent to prison for three months if he failed to pay the fines.

Loh cried when his siblings approached him before the police took him to the court lockup.

In asking for leniency, Loh's counsel Muhammad Syazwan Mohd Salleh said his client was a masseur and he committed the offences after he was frustrated after the break-up with his boyfriend.

According to the statement of facts, LRT staff Mohamad Hafsan Che Ismail had rushed to the scene and discovered a man lying down on his back on the track.

Intial investigation showed Loh had earlier swallowed detergent after he found out that his former boyfriend had a new lover.
