PUTRAJAYA: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results will be released on March 3 next year.

This is two weeks earlier compared to previous years and will give students time to start pre-university with their actual SPM results.

Education Minister II Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh (pic) said on Tuesday that this would solve the issues that were raised when it was announced that the use of forecast results was disallowed.

"(Students) will have enough time to complete a whole academic year and be able to continue their studies overseas the next year," said Idris at a press conference.

The Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities (Mapcu) president Datuk Dr Parmjit Singh said that the institutions were very grateful to the ministry for prioritising the welfare of students.

Also present at the press conference were National Association of Private Educational Institutions of Malaysia (Napei) president Assoc Prof Elajsolan Mohan, representatives from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and representatives from private higher education institutions.

There will be further deliberation and engagement between the Education Ministry, Mapcu and other stakeholders on this issue.
