Balik kampung traffic: Bus catches fire near Simpang Pulai


IPOH: An express bus heading towards Kuala Lumpur from Butterworth caught fire near KM287 of the North-South Expressway near Simpang Pulai at about 6pm on Friday.

Passengers noticed smoke coming out from the rear of the bus and alerted the driver.

The bus stopped at the emergency lane of the expressway, near the Simpang Pulai tollbooth. All 32 passengers managed to get down but several luggage bags were destroyed.

The passengers boarded buses from other companies and continued their journey. 

Here are some reports at 8.30pm of the situation at major highways.

KARAK: Backed up from the Gombak toll and from Genting Sepah - Bukit Tinggi.

PLUS: Busy before Menora tunnel-Sg Perak- Bukit Berapit and from Slim River - Sungkai.

PLUS: Traffic back to normal but still busy at R&R Seremban heading to Seremban after the accident at KM257 southbound has been cleared.

PLUS North: Traffic remains at a 1KM crawl from Kuala Kangsar to Ipoh due to earlier mentioned fatal accident at KM266.3 which has been cleared.

PLUS North: Expect delays for all northbound traffic from Slim River – Sungkai / Tapah – Gopeng / Juru – Sg Dua; from Rawang – Sg Buaya due stalled car at KM443.7.

JOHOR CAUSEWAY: Traffic is slow on the car lanes to Malaysia.

SECOND LINK: Expect delays on the car lanes in both directions.
