PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has refuted a news report stating that the national carrier will be shutting down operations on May 28.
In postings on the airline’s official Twitter and Facebook accounts on Thursday, MAS released a statement by the group’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ahmad Jauhari Yahya denying the claim.
“We are running business as usual, and passengers should not worry,” he was quoted as saying.
MAS commented that the article perpetuating the rumours were based from unofficial sources and had caused anxiety among its passengers.
MAS also said it was striving to increase competition by having a greater marketing push.
“The current Malaysia Airlines Travel Fair (MATF) allows travellers to purchase our tickets at 50% off for immediate travel until 31 December 2014,” added Jauhari.MAS has seen a troubled few years, with unending financial problems and worldwide scrutiny following MH370’s disappearance in the South Indian Ocean on March 8.
