Queen of Keroncong Kartina Dahari passes away


PETALING JAYA:  Malay music doyenne Kartina Dahari (pic), famously known as the 'Queen of Keroncong' passed away in Singapore on Wednesday evening.

It had been reported that the 73-year-old artiste had been suffering from cancer.

Kartina's last public appearance was at a tribute concert dedicated to her music, at the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore in 2013.

The 'keroncong' is a traditional Malay folk music genre popular from the 1960s to 1990s.

The late Kartina leaves behind three children.

Her remains will be laid to rest on Thursday. - Bernama
