BATU PAHAT: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin has denied that the state will be changing its current Friday and Saturday rest days back to Saturday and Sunday again.
Asked about recent postings circulating on social media websites about the state government mulling another change in the rest days since switching to Friday and Saturday from Jan 1 this year, Mohamed Khaled replied, "there is no such thing".
Mohamed Khaled was speaking to reporters after launching the state level Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-tourism (Maha) programme in Dataran Penggaram here Friday.
Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar announced the change in November last year that applied to all state government departments and agencies, but was optional for the private sector.
The switch was to make it more convenient for Muslims to perform Friday prayers.
Prior to 1994, Johor had observed Friday and Saturday as rest days.
The states with Friday and Saturday as rest days now include Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.
