An emotional moment for Nurul’s mother

JOHOR BARU: It was an emotional moment for Roselyn Alan, the mother of Nurul Nadirah Abdullah, when the High Court sentenced the girl’s murderer to death.

Roselyn, along with about 10 family members, burst into tears when High Court judge Datuk Abdul Halim Aman announced the sentence against Muidin Maidin, 27, for killing Nurul Nadirah, fondly known as Dirang.

“I feel so relieved that the man responsible has finally been punished with a befitting sentence.

“I have been praying so hard and never lost hope that justice would be served for Dirang’s death,” the 26-year-old said outside the courtroom.

Roselyn said that although more than a year had passed, she still found it hard to get a good night’s rest as she kept recollecting about what had happened to her little girl.

“Sometimes I even dream of Dirang hugging and kissing me at night,” she said with tears welling in her eyes.

Meanwhile, Dirang’s grandfather Alan Alip, 50, said he would leave it to God to punish the killer of his granddaughter.

“I leave it to Allah and the law to punish Muidin for what he did to my grandchild,” he said, adding that the family would be conducting thanksgiving prayers and visit Dirang’s grave soon.

Dirang’s stepfather Lima Nedeng, 27, was also seen in court but he declined to comment.

He was holding Dirang’s six-year-old brother Hafiz Abdullah who looked quite lost among the crowd of relatives.

Dirang’s biological father Handry Yangot, 30, was not present.
