TANJUNG MALIM: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has been conferred an honorary doctorate in Early Childhood Education by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).
The Prime Minister's wife was conferred the honorary doctorate during a special session of the university's 14th convocation ceremony.
The Permata Negara Programme patron dedicated the doctorate to those responsible for bringing about the existence and execution of Permata, as well as its entire workforce and pupils.
“I also dedicate this doctorate to my husband, our children, family and comrades for their unfailing support and encouragement.
“To UPSI, this honour will remain etched in my heart,” said Rosmah, who received the doctorate from UPSI Chancellor Raja Puan Besar Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.
Rosmah said education would help build human capital and pave the way towards the nation's transformation.
“The investment in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) is a smart move in that it not only ensures the development of children as productive individuals, but it also ensures great returns for the nation.
“More importantly, there is a greater chance for these children to succeed in a holistic manner.”
Rosmah has a Degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Universiti Malaya and Masters in Sociology and Agriculture from the Louisiana State University.
Tuanku Zara said Rosmah was conferred the doctorate for her role in mooting the idea for Permata Negara and her commitment in bringing the programme to the world's attention.
On UPSI, Tuanku Zara said the university had the “DNA” to achieve greater heights by drawing on its past strengths and illustrious history.
