MAS union to circulate memorandum among MPs

PETALING JAYA: The MAS Employees Union (Maseu) is planning to distribute a memorandum on the MAS-AirAsia share swap deal to MPs next week.

Maseu president Alias Aziz said yesterday that the union had decided to distribute the memorandum, which they had sent to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, to all MPs in Parliament.

“We would like to inform lawmakers from both Barisan Nasional and the opposition parties on the progress of the deal.

“We do not want to make it a political issue. We just want everyone to be aware of what is currently going on in MAS,” Alias said.

Alias claimed that the share-swap arrangement appeared to be more beneficial to AirAsia and said the union wants the deal cancelled.

Maseu met Najib in mid-February to air its grievances about the deal.

An online portal had quoted a Maseu official as saying that Najib had promised to review the share-swap deal.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha, however, said his ministry had not received any report on changes to the deal.

In the deal that was inked in August last year, Khazanah Nasional Bhd had given up 20.5% of its (approximately) 70% stake in MAS for a 10% stake in AirAsia Bhd through Tune Air Sdn Bhd.
